Angst and Pleasure in the Process of Thinking Emotionally and Rationally
It's time we dispel the myth about Thinking and Intelligence. It's not a black box. It is all based on Memory. The Memory of Stories that is. The engine working out memory is Emotion, it's certainly Feeling, but much more Emotion, as the feeling is just a retrieval of memories registered through emotion, and emotion is what drives the retrieval and lead to the feeling. The emotion that we are talking about is the core kind, with Valence (Pleasant or not Pleasant) and Levels of Excitation (Low Level or High Level). The other kind of emotion, the episodic kinds, like jealousy and fear are dependent of the core kind.
Emotions elicit Stories and/or the other way around, but they walk hand in hand, as one leads to the other. Angst and Focus manipulates and negotiates the stories and the emotions that lead to choices made in the thought process. However, the Pleasure of Reactions drive the Engagement process that focuses the story of the thought and its discrimination of ideas.
So the rapports between Memory, Stories, Emotions, Thought, Choices and Engagement are what elicit the thinking process. Rationality is thus based on Stories and thus on Emotion, the Pleasure of relating stories following conventions and/or experiences that one is actually attached to, conventions and experiences of being right, yet still another story or even stories.
Now the interesting thing is not just the fact of being right, but the way our mind marries the environment to decide what is right following the situation and the right focus, or the focus of the moment. In the Psycho-Social Sciences the conjuncture evolves, what is right depends not only of the situation but also on the perspectives that may be as relevant as they relate to the related situation that is being considered by the designated social actor or the actor in question.
That's why modeling is so important, and insights about a situation are being framed by what precedes. And modeling has to take into account many interactions between important concepts. And very often, it's not the concepts themselves that help us understand what's going on, but the interactions between these different concepts, the mechanisms of their relationships in action. Context is thus very important, and Memories of these contexts are very essential to our understanding.
We are driven and we are driven by what we know as much as we are driven by what we come into contact with, or by what we experience, and the way we feel about what we experience and know, following previous stories of these experiences and knowledge. Rationality relates very much to the core kind of emotion, that's how we remember and recognize what is right.
At that level of emotion, a relatively low level, the pleasure of choosing the way to go and what to focus on leads our thinking, based on what the main focus is, as influenced by our angst. And clearly the framework is from our memory.
This is what helps us engage what is relevant in interdisciplinary work from the reality of interactions in psycho-social life. There's Synergy in real life, and research should try as much as possible to translate this Synergy in its investigation of psycho-social phenomena.
At the end, Antonio Damasio's concept of Somatic Marker Hypothesis is a reminder to the mind of the Emotional Basic Needs Perspectives Prioritization, Enabling Purpose, Mindful of Meaningful Links to Regulating the Story in context, as emotional memories are tapped onto in order to inform decisions about realities. This automatic integration of different elements summarized throughout time and space informs an understanding of real situations and helps navigate both exploration and investigation, for relevant insights.

The Fabric of Socio-Environmental Space-Time Universe, even Mental Space-Time Universe, is sometimes warped in the Fractal Rhythms of Life Realities. That's why it is important to focus on the larger picture, the larger context. A simple literature review of the research just closely connected to the investigation at stake is very often not enough. The multiple effects and the impacts of the plot of Stories leading to the subject being considered are many, and the ramifications profound, even producing unexpected changes.
Space-Time warps happen in the Psycho-Social Sciences too, when two or multiple Stars Galaxies of Staircase Checklists of Stories drive the direction of research and cause the meaning to go in one direction and to neglect other relevant determining connections. One finds oneself in a black hole, and many current ideas running in the social sciences are in such black holes, evolving buzz words, buzz sentences, buzz ideas leading nowhere, living a life of their own, and finding no definitive applications in reality. Sometimes these ideas are just stuck on some aspects of reality that they can't connect to any real evolution in the conjunctures of realities, so they are just conjectures, stories of their own and on their own.
Events also take a life of their own and drive the comprehension of psycho-social phenomena in major directions away from other meaningful happenings. Here is a checklist of stories that will serve as milestones in the search for emerging and evolving truths in the Psycho-Social Sciences. Here you will find steps to explore stories in connection with each other. But you will also get the epistemological perspective of the latest advances in the physical sciences in that quest for understanding through all kinds of investigations.
Throughout my many studies and research considerations, I have come to grasp the dynamism of methodologies to investigate an ever evolving reality, and I have come to be wary of the status quo in the Psycho-Social Sciences, feeling the needs for a paradigm shift. Interdisciplinarity is my mantra and Transdisciplinarity nurtures my insights. And I have come to believe that the Story drives the sciences, the Checklists of Stories that is, evolving as Staircases with Twists as Steps. Emotion and/or Energy is at every corner, causing Creativity to relate and Intelligence is just Storied Abilities.
